What A Day, What A Month

Today was not as nice as yesterday, it was rainy and much chillier. I received a call from a friend who wanted to have lunch and thought it would be a good idea to get out since the rest of the week I will be in the house watching everyone else’s children. So, off we went to Bridgewater Commons to meet Michelle and her daughter, Angelina.

Angelina slept the entire time we were in the mall and Aiden was perfect as usual. He ate Cheerios while we had lunch and sang and chatted with anyone who was willing to stop and compliment him on his cuteness. I have to admit I was a candidate for the “Worst Mom Ever” award toward the end of our outing. I fed Aiden some orange sherbert from my vanilla and orange cone I got at Kohr Bros. I got a spoon and started feeding him some of the orange sherbert, he loved it and made a fuss when it was my turn to lick the cone. Then all “you know what” happened.

Yes, Aiden’s belly did not take too kindly to the sherbert. He pooped 4 times within a 3 hour period. It was horrible for him and not so pleasant for anyone near enough to smell. I felt so bad! Almost as bad as when he flipped himself off the changing table while I was standing right there. Almost as bad as when he was jumping in his bed (something I taught him) and bonked his chin, pushing his two bottom teeth into his upper gum making it bleed. And almost as bad as when he has fallen (on several occasions) and clunked his head, face or body onto some part of the coffee table because I was letting him stand and walk around it. Ok, I will accept the award, but I know that not everyday will be perfect.

Speaking of not being perfect, I realize that today is the last day of the first month of the year. I will now take a moment to check the status of my resolutions. Moment has been taken and here is what I have concluded…

I have not complete one book for this month. I started to read Living History by Hilary Rodham Clinton and have not taken the time to finish it. So, on the surface I have not fulfilled my first New Year’s Resolution. However, I have been reading more online. I have a few blogs that I peruse everyday and sometimes I even make comments. So, I am reading more, just not books at the moment. There are eleven more months of this year to try and get through, I’m sure I will do fine.

I have not learned any more sign language to teach Aiden. I have been making an effort to use the sign language in everyday speaking, not just with the songs. As I am not fluent in signing, it will take some extra effort on my part to make sure I am giving him every opportunity to learn the signs. He has been signing mommy and daddy very successfully and I’m sure that with more exposure he will start signing other too. All in due time.

I am blogging as much as I can, but I am not always able to do it every evening. I have been playing “catch up,” writing two or more days worth of posts to keep up with the events. I will try to write a post nightly so that it is more up to date. I am having so much fun and it is a great way to journal Aiden’s life. I’m sure he will get a kick out of knowing all the the incredible things he has done that he probably won’t remember.

My unofficial resolutions, eating healthier, exercising more and being more efficient with my time, are coming along slowly.
1. I have done yoga at least once a week. That doesn’t sound like much, but I figure if I can fit it in once a week, then eventually I will try two and maybe three and so on. If I gradually work it in I won’t feel like such a failure when I fall off the horse.
2. Chris and I have been eating more salads and fruits, but we slipped just the other day when we bought ice cream.
3. I have incorporated cleaning into my routine. Sounds silly, but I only used to clean when someone was coming over. I am so pleased that I don’t have to worry about about anyone dropping by unexpectedly.

So, all in all, I feel that I am doing pretty well with my resolutions. I didn’t expect to change everything overnight (it takes about 30 days to form a habit, good or bad). I know there is always room for improvement and will work on those things for next month.

Springtime In January

Today was another crazy warm day in January. It was in the upper 50s/low 60s and sunny. Aiden and I decided to go for a walk around the neighborhood. I contemplated taking him to the canal, but I decided that I didn’t want to waste any time loading and unloading the car. So, I buckled him in the Jeep and off we went up the hill.

I was determined to walk about 3 miles before Aiden needed a nap. About a third of the way, Aiden decided he didn’t like not seeing me and stared to cry. I wasn’t going to let a little crying stop us, so I sang most of the way. We made a pit stop at the park and I got some great pictures of him on the swing. He looks so cute in his baseball hat, just like Daddy. He also looked cool driving the car. He enjoyed it so much that he didn’t want to leave, but I knew that nap time was fast approaching. We finished our walk and after a minor spit up and poopy diaper, Aiden took a 2 1/2 hour nap (longer than his usual afternoon nap).

I think tomorrow is going to be as nice. Let’s hope so.

When It’s Time To Change…

Today Chris and I decided that we are going to redecorate the guest bathroom. It hasn’t been overhauled in almost 6 years. With Chris’s mom and husband coming in a couple weeks and Aiden using that bathrrom now, it was time. We got up with Aiden, ate, dressed and headed off to Lowes. We purchased a new shower curtain and a shelving unit for the shampoo, soap, etc. and came home to immediately install them.

Aiden’s room has a square motif and his bathroom has a circle motif. The colors are similar to his room but darker. We still need to get sink accessories, trash can and towels. It is going to look so cool when we are done. I’m sure Aiden will get a kick out of it when he gets a little older. It takes so little to make us happy.

Later in the evening, Aiden was getting a little cranky (his two top teeth are really hurting him) so we took him grocery shopping. He loves sitting in the cart and watching all the people. Sometimes he talks or sings to anyone who is looking at him. He just cracks me up! His mood obviously improved as we strolled up and down each aisle. It never fails, Aiden always attracts compliments by various shoppers and employees. We get such a kick out of hearing how cute everyone thinks he is. I know it’s superficial, we think he is adorable and it’s nice to hear it from strangers.

Guess Who’s Coming To Dinner?

Lazy day today, we stayed in our pajamas until late in the afternoon. Even though we were expecting company for dinner, we were in slow gear. We did manage to get dressed, straighten up the house and order dinner before our friend Tara and her boyfriend, Drew, arrived.

Aiden was so excited to hang out with Tara and Drew that he stayed up way past his bed time. This was the first time we had a chance to really get to know Drew and we couldn’t be happier for Tara. She really found a great guy. He is wonderful with kids, gets along with everyone and treats her like a princess. We hope that we will see a lot more of him, or should I say we hope Tara sees a lot more of him.

So Big!

Aiden has had such a productive week. He is cutting his two upper teeth, he is trying to sign, he has graduated from trying to crawl to actual crawling and he is attempting to master his balance by showing us he can stand unassisted for about 10 seconds. He never ceases to amaze me. I am just so proud of him!

It’s not going to be long before he can walk and talk. While I am very excited to see him grow up, I am also trying to savor every moment. I’m sure one day I am going to look back on this time and remember with teary eyes how wonderful it was to be a part of all his significant events. Until the next milestone.
