I Have A Theory…

Today is a Matthew Day. That means that in addition to Aiden I tend to the needs of another child. First let me say that I have a tremedous amount of respect for anyone who has more than one child, especially parents of multiples. But I digress.

In the several months that I have been watching Matthew and raising my own son, I have come to discover that there is a certain time of the day that the kids are more cranky and needy. It starts around the 4 pm hour. Here is my theory on this “magical” hour.

This is a transition time. A time when it is getting chilly (at least in winter time) as the sun sets, the day is shifting from day to evening. The children can sense this and react accordingly. They know that dinner needs to be made and the quality time that was pletiful during the day is diminishing. They know that the time when they have to be seperated from their parents for a long period of time while they sleep is upon them. That is when the “hold me” crying starts. The “don’t put me down or you’ll be sorry” act begins. I’m convinced that they know. They know the day is almost over for them. They know that fun time will soon be ending. They know and they let us know it is not okay with them.

I’m not sure how to even begin proving this theory, but I don’t think it matters. All I know is that it happens every day and somehow I am surprised by it every time. It doesn’t matter how much I try to make sure the crankies don’t come, they always do. What is a mom to do?
