What A Day, What A Month
Today was not as nice as yesterday, it was rainy and much chillier. I received a call from a friend who wanted to have lunch and thought it would be a good idea to get out since the rest of the week I will be in the house watching everyone else’s children. So, off we went to Bridgewater Commons to meet Michelle and her daughter, Angelina.
Angelina slept the entire time we were in the mall and Aiden was perfect as usual. He ate Cheerios while we had lunch and sang and chatted with anyone who was willing to stop and compliment him on his cuteness. I have to admit I was a candidate for the “Worst Mom Ever” award toward the end of our outing. I fed Aiden some orange sherbert from my vanilla and orange cone I got at Kohr Bros. I got a spoon and started feeding him some of the orange sherbert, he loved it and made a fuss when it was my turn to lick the cone. Then all “you know what” happened.
Yes, Aiden’s belly did not take too kindly to the sherbert. He pooped 4 times within a 3 hour period. It was horrible for him and not so pleasant for anyone near enough to smell. I felt so bad! Almost as bad as when he flipped himself off the changing table while I was standing right there. Almost as bad as when he was jumping in his bed (something I taught him) and bonked his chin, pushing his two bottom teeth into his upper gum making it bleed. And almost as bad as when he has fallen (on several occasions) and clunked his head, face or body onto some part of the coffee table because I was letting him stand and walk around it. Ok, I will accept the award, but I know that not everyday will be perfect.
Speaking of not being perfect, I realize that today is the last day of the first month of the year. I will now take a moment to check the status of my resolutions. Moment has been taken and here is what I have concluded…
I have not complete one book for this month. I started to read Living History by Hilary Rodham Clinton and have not taken the time to finish it. So, on the surface I have not fulfilled my first New Year’s Resolution. However, I have been reading more online. I have a few blogs that I peruse everyday and sometimes I even make comments. So, I am reading more, just not books at the moment. There are eleven more months of this year to try and get through, I’m sure I will do fine.
I have not learned any more sign language to teach Aiden. I have been making an effort to use the sign language in everyday speaking, not just with the songs. As I am not fluent in signing, it will take some extra effort on my part to make sure I am giving him every opportunity to learn the signs. He has been signing mommy and daddy very successfully and I’m sure that with more exposure he will start signing other too. All in due time.
I am blogging as much as I can, but I am not always able to do it every evening. I have been playing “catch up,” writing two or more days worth of posts to keep up with the events. I will try to write a post nightly so that it is more up to date. I am having so much fun and it is a great way to journal Aiden’s life. I’m sure he will get a kick out of knowing all the the incredible things he has done that he probably won’t remember.
My unofficial resolutions, eating healthier, exercising more and being more efficient with my time, are coming along slowly.
1. I have done yoga at least once a week. That doesn’t sound like much, but I figure if I can fit it in once a week, then eventually I will try two and maybe three and so on. If I gradually work it in I won’t feel like such a failure when I fall off the horse.
2. Chris and I have been eating more salads and fruits, but we slipped just the other day when we bought ice cream.
3. I have incorporated cleaning into my routine. Sounds silly, but I only used to clean when someone was coming over. I am so pleased that I don’t have to worry about about anyone dropping by unexpectedly.
So, all in all, I feel that I am doing pretty well with my resolutions. I didn’t expect to change everything overnight (it takes about 30 days to form a habit, good or bad). I know there is always room for improvement and will work on those things for next month.
