Busy Day

Today Aiden made the rounds. First we had lunch at daddy’s office and Aiden was “oooooooo”ed and “aaaaaaaa”ed over by all of Chris’s co-workers. He showed off his crawling skills and was laughing and giggling at anyone who played with him. After disrupting the work day it was time for us to head over to the college where I had a meeting.

It was a small and relatively short meeting. Aiden made some great points, babbling in all the right places. He climbed all over Mark, the Vice President of Academic and Student Affairs. Fortunately,  Mark has kid experience and didn’t mind having Aiden climb up his leg and sit on his lap. After many Cheerios and lots of crawling and climbing, it was time to head out again. On our way to the car we stopped into the offices of some fellow instructors and, of course, became the center of attention once again. Not only did he have the attention of the people’s office we were in, but the many instuructors and students who passed by. Missing a nap made him a snitch cranky, so off to the car we went.

Twenty minutes of napping in the car and then we were waiting for daddy to join us for dinner at Panera Breads. Twenty minutes must have been enough because he downed dinner and was a happy boy. So happy, in fact that we tried our luck at some shopping at Target. We got what we needed and Aiden was trying to let us know that it was close to bedtime and he needed to go home. Home we went and quickly put Aiden to bed. Another busy and successful day.

Sniff, Sniff

The Olympics have ended. No more skiing or speed skating or snowboarding. No more drama or falls. No more curling, wow, I know more about curling than I ever thought I would. No more Olympic theme song. Daa-daa-daa-daa-daa-da-da-da-da, it gives me goosebumps every time.

Chris and I have been together through five winter Olympics. This was, of course, Aiden’s first. It is amazing to me how the athletes have such determination and dedication to their sport. Sometimes they train for most of their lives to have a shining moment at the Olympics. It really amazes me. It makes me think that I should be a better role model for my son. Do as I do, sounds better than do as I say.

One thing I need to get off my chest about the coverage of the Olympics is how Bob Costas really made it sound like the end of the world if someone didn’t get a gold. Medaling isn’t enough? These people really gave it their all, at least most of them did. If someone got a silver, it was a “disappointing win”. My goodness, what more could you ask for. I mean, he barely recognized the fact that someone could be better skilled at a sport. It was appalling.

The Olympics is about uniting as a world for two weeks to show off the best sportsmen (and women) of each country. To make it sound so depressing as Bob Costas did each time he would report on the outcome of an event made my blood boil. If the Americans did not perform well enough to win a gold medal he used such negative words to describe their effort. It’s ashame that he could not even bring himself to see the beauty of winning a medal, no matter what the color. Being on the podium is an honor, in my eyes. It not like they tried to be second or third best. They tried to be the best, but only one could rise to the top. Bob Costas, you should be ashamed of yourself, where is your Olympic spirit?

Ok, I’m down off my soapbox. Until the 2008 Summer Olympics, I bid everyone a good night.

Grand Central Station

Not only did Aiden have Matthew over for the day, as we do every Thursday and Friday, but Shelia brought Skylar over to play for a bit. The three kids enjoyed cramming themselves onto one of the toys to try and play together. It was quite amusing to watch them climb up one another, almost step on each other’s feet and try to push all the buttons to make the music.

Shelia no sooner left with Skylar and up pulls Fiona to pick up Matthew. We chatted for a while and then Chris came home. Whew! I didn’t even have time to get dinner started, let alone figure out what to make as Aiden and Matthew played tag with their naps. We were able to whip together a nice spaghetti dinner and get to bed early.

Doesn’t It Figure

I no sooner get finished saying how lucky we are to have such a wonderful little boy in our lives and he keeps me up for several hours last night. This teething thing is not fun. We are continuing to work on tooth number five (has not broken through the gums yet) and the doctor mentioned that number six will not be far behind. I’m ready for all the teeth to be in and have this be far behind us.

Other than that I was able to stay awake all day (no naps for me) and get all my grading completed. I finished early and had a nice relaxing afternoon with Aiden. Athough relaxing was not in his mind. He was having a hold-me afternoon, so everytime I needed to do something (a.k.a. use the bathroom) he screamed bloody murder. Ok, time to get creative…place him on the hip reach for the shoes, sit on my lap, tie shoes, make funny noises and tell him what a good boy he is, not bad!

Chris came home and I handed off the spoon for the feeding of dinner and when Aiden realized that I would be leaving, he went nuts. Of course, food won out over the loss of mommy. Off I went to class and the boys had yet another evening of bonding. Happy home, happy family.

Nine Month Doctor’s Appointment

Today was Aiden’s nine month doctor’s appointment (he actually turned nine months on the 19th). It was extra special because Chris took the day off to come with us. The appointment was in the morning and so we got up as usual and headed off to the doctor’s office.

Our “little” bundle of joy weighed in at a whopping 21 pounds 9 ounces with a height of 28 and 3/4 inches. I’m so glad he has slowed down his growth, he used to be in the 95% for weight and he is now in the 50-75%. Height-wise he is still in the 75%, so he is one healthy guy. The doctor gave him a glowing report and we were two proud parents. Aiden didn’t even flinch when the lab technician took his blood, he was actually fascinated by the process. The shot he received was too close to nap time so it sent him into hysterics.

We took Aiden home and he went down for a three hour nap. I had several meeting at the college which gave Chris some quality daddy time. The doctor gave us the okay to feed Aiden protein and more table food, so daddy got a chance to give him his first dinner meal. They had so much fun and while I missed them, it was nice for them to have the opportunity to bond.

Every night before Chris and I fall asleep we talk about how we are so lucky to have such a great kid. He is social and happy with a wonderful sense of humor. We are still in awe that we even have a child let alone such a good natured one. We are truly enjoying being parents and can’t wait for the next milestone.
