New Favorite Toy
Crissy March 27th, 2006
Of all the toys Aiden has in his room and in the living room, his new favorite toy cannot compare to any of them. It’s not something you would normally think of as a toy, per say, although most children would beg to differ. I’m sure all kids at one time or another have had a toy similar, if not exactly like this one. Oh, I’m sorry, you want to know what the toy is…
It’s his Pampers box. I know, I know, most kids will opt for the box over any actual toy itself, so what’s the big deal? We are using it to “drive” him around the house. Yes, this is his new car. Again, nothing new in the realm of kids, but I actually thought it was my idea many years ago…(dream sequence)
I was 9 and my other brother, Joey, was 6 when my youngest brother, Jeff, was born. When Jeff was about Aiden’s age, Joey and I took the large Pampers box that his diapers came in and “drove” Jeff around the house. We went from upstairs to downstairs with him in the sturdy (?) box. (end dream sequence) I thought I was so clever to think up using the box in this way. It’s a miracle that Jeff made it through life alive, as helmets were not a requirement yet.
Ah, the disadvantage of being a grown-up, all my dreams and so-called ideas are not as original as once thought. Kids will continue to “dream up” this same idea for years to come. I will take a lesson from my mom and let any idea of Aiden’s be his for as long as I can. As for now, I must go gas up for another drive through the upstairs. Don’t worry, I have learned my lesson and will not send him down the stairs in his car!

From what I remember, I used to love going down the stairs in the box. That was the best part.
