Yes, yes, it is the end of the month. After yesterday’s outing we are all feeling the pain. The pain of Spring that is, so I am in a sluggish mode. I am also embarrassed that each month comes and goes and I haven’t done anything to advance my resolutions that were carefully chosen at the beginning of the year.
So, here is my monthly crap-I’m-sure-I-did-more-to-improve-myself-this-month review.
Official resolutions:
1. Reading - I have not read one book. I haven’t even been reading the blogs everyday. Sorry everyone! If it’s any consolation I have been working on a special project and will update when there is something to tell.
2. Sign Language - I haven’t learned any new signs to teach Aiden, although he has been showing me that he understands and sometimes signs back. Going to invest in some other resources to help me get my butt into gear and sign more.
3. Blogging - Not too bad this month when you see the month as a whole, but I know I have been taking a week or two off and then playing catch up. Not sure how to explain this except to say that sometimes I feel like writing and sometimes I feel like just living. I have had this problem all my life, couldn’t complete a journal or diary. I am trying, really I am!
Now for the unofficial resolutions:
1. Weight - I have lost more weight and while I have not gotten back to my pre-baby weight, I am able to fit into the same size as pre-pregnancy. Not too bad.
2. Health - Chris and I have been eating much healthier since Aiden needs to eat our food too. He is still eating baby food for now, but he is quickly learning that our food tastes so much better.
3. Cleaning - Spring is in the air and we are ready to clean stuff we haven’t looked at in a while. Since today is the last day of the month it will have to wait until May, but it is in the works.
So, not too great and not too bad. I need a nap now, my head is swimming in Spring.

I have been so excited about today because we brought Aiden to the annual Ag Field Day/NJ Folk Festival at our alma mater. It is always fun to visit the old college campus where we have tons of wonderful memories. Not only did Chris and I meet here, it’s also the place where he proposed and we got married. And to think they almost dissolved the school and merged into Rutgers, shame on them!
But I digress.
I was also excited because this was the first time we were taking Aiden to visit the college. He must have sensed my excitement as he woke up around 6 am. Fortunately I was ready to get up too since he allowed us to get a pretty good night sleep. He dutifully took a nap between 8:30-10:30 so we were able to get out at a decent hour without the fear of him being cranky or overtired.
We arrived and met our friends Tara and Drew. They had a special treat for Aiden, Hamlet, Tara’s dachshund, joined us and Aiden had a ball petting and playing with him. Aiden has recently taken a liking to dogs, but he is less scared of them up close if they are smaller than him. Which is why when we were watching the dog show he was more interested in hanging onto us then going after the dogs.
So we watched the dog show, grabbed some lunch on the lawn and headed back over to the animals. We saw some of Aiden’s friends (and their parents) when we arrived to pet the baby animals. Aiden was hysterical with the piglets because he was more interested in picking the hay out of the bale than petting them. He kept shooing them away from him with his hands. We were cracking up!
The day was beautiful, mid 60s with sun and a breeze. Perfect outside weather. It had been a very fulfilling and exciting day, which ended with me carrying a very sleepy boy to the car. Everyone had a great time and now it was time for us all to take a nap.

Anyone who knows me can tell you that I love to organize and plan. Sometimes I am expected to, which is a whole other pet peeve, but for the most part you will find to do lists all over my desk and my calendar filled to the brim. With this comes a very full schedule that can sometimes wear us down.
Since having Aiden I have adopted a new rule to offset all the activities I have coordinated and planned. You can read about this new rule of mine in an article I wrote for Parenting Ideas. I give several references to articles that provide suggestions on how you can tame an overwhelming schedule.
Enjoy!

Aiden has been consistently waking up at midnight and 5 am every night for several weeks not and my first thought was, “A tooth must be coming.” When it lasted for weeks on end I resigned myself to the fact that maybe it wasn’t a tooth and this was his new schedule. I decided that I would no longer get up and comfort him and let him cry it out. Well I was wrong…
Today I went snooping around Aiden’s mouth hoping that a tooth would have popped up without my knowledge. Now this does take some skill as he doesn’t like anyone sticking anything in his mouth besides himself. So, I braced myself, and him, and went in. I have been noticing that the gums where his eye teeth will arrive have been more bumpy than usual. So I checked his upper teeth…nothing. I looked on the bottom expecting to see nothing and lo and behold I found the sharp pointy top of his next tooth. Hooray!
This means that number eight will either be arriving in a day or two or a week or two. Which means sleep is going to be a luxury around here. Maybe I should squeeze a nap in now to try and prepare?

Parent Hacks is a cool place to get tips from parents on things that just aren’t in the books. I am proud to announce that my second official hack has arrived! It’s entitled Cold Washcloth Helps Teething. Take a look, you might even be so inclined to add your own!
