In The Cup of the Beholder
Crissy April 7th, 2006
Yesterday I went shopping with my friend Tara. She is taking a fabulous vacation next week to Jamaica with her boyfriend, Drew, while I only needed bras.
I say only needed, like it wasn’t a big deal. Actually it was a huge deal for me. I haven’t had a decent fitting bra since I became pregnant. Somehow I have managed to gain a whole cup size and it is killing my shoulders and back (have I mentioned that I’m only 5 feet tall?). I was sent out by my husband, who is tired of hearing me complain about how my shoulders hurt, and he instructed me to get fitted and not come home without decent fitting bras.
So I get fitted and find out that I am exactly the size I thought I was, however I am wearing the wrong type of bra. The sales woman directs me to a rack of bras that have underwire and formed cups. They looked huge! I thought there is no way I will fit into these. I was surprised at how distorted my perception of my body was after trying one on as it fit beautifully and the pain in my shoulders melted away. Now, home I trot (because now I can without any pain) with these unbelievably large bras.
I remember seeing my grandmother’s bras and thinking, wow I hope I never get to be that big! Well, hello, I have arrived. Thank you very much grandmom!

Thank you very much for this post. I got a good laugh out of this one. I can’t relate to wearing huge bras (I still barely need one and I’m almost 26 weeks pregnant). I am just now finally starting to outgrow my 34A WonderBras. Sadly, I finally fill out an A cup but it’s the band that needs to be bigger. I can certainly understand the need for some new, better fitting bras but I am a bit envious that I can’t have some of what you seem so chagrined to have. LOL

I went bra shopping this past week as well. Unfortunately I had to get smaller ones.
