Today I had my 3 month doctor’s appointment. Oh, I’m sorry, what do I need to see the doctor for every 3 months? My blood pressure. Back track exactly 1 year ago during my pregnancy, I was on the verge of being diagnosed with preeclampsia due to the increase in weight. Didn’t have to go on bed rest, but it was scary. Fast forward to a week after delivery and I am back in the hospital for 3 days due to my blood pressure and spraining my neck from pushing out my beautiful baby boy. Not fun! Since then I have been on medication.
I have been having trouble dropping the weight, which is why I am still being monitored and medicated for high blood pressure. The trouble was I was eating for two and maintaining my pregnancy weight. I have realized that my metabolism has changed drastically since having a baby and I couldn’t just eat everything in sight. Now I have dropped some weight and am waiting for my blood pressure to stabilize.
So I am here in the doctor’s office waiting for the doctor to come in while I keep Aiden from tearing the place apart. First we weighed him on the big scale, then we played with the water at the faucet and finally he went for a ride on the stool with wheels. The doctor came, took my blood pressure and said it was normal - hooray! Now that is while I am still on the medication. So I am to take my blood pressure every morning and try to lose more weight and I may not need to be on the medication the next time I come to visit.
That was the good news. I come from a line of women who are on blood pressure medication and the pill is going to stop here! The problem will come when I try to have another child and have to go back on the medication and then have to drop even more weight. We will cross that bridge when we come to it. For today I am feeling very confident that I can do this. Wish me luck!

Today is tax day and for the first time in some years we are not dreading the beginning or end of this day. It pretty much came and went without much notice and for good reason. It is nice to know that our little “pride and joy” can save us money somehow, cause he sure isn’t cheap to raise. Formula, diapers, clothes (the clothes are so cute!), gates, etc. sure takes a toll on the pocketbook (does anyone really call them that anymore?). Anyway, I guess the saying is true, little things do mean a lot!

All week we, or should I say I, have been agonizing over where to go for Easter. My step-mom invited us to dinner a few weeks ago, but when I called my mom to see what she was up to, she mentioned going to visit my grandmother (who I have not seen since August - I know, bad granddaughter). When I mentioned I wanted to go she then invited us over for lunch. Ok, so our day would consist of driving an hour to my mom’s, a half hour to visit my grandmom and then back a half hour to my dad’s and finally an hour home. The dilemma was that I really didn’t want to be driving around all day visiting making Aiden miss his nap. It escaladed into a problem when I found out that dinner at my dad’s would be at 2 pm, the exact time we were having lunch at my mom’s!
After much agony, we decided to go to my mom’s for lunch and then to visit my grandmom, skipping my dad’s. Since my mom is not going to be around for Mother’s Day I thought we would make it up to my step-mom then. Everything would be fine, right? Wrong, I’m pretty sure I’m on my step-mom’s list because she had my dad call me to talk to me. I just want Aiden to experience stress-free holidays and my family is making it difficult.
I sucked it up anyway and it was fine. My mom was so happy even though my brothers were no in attendance. My step-mom understood that I haven’t visited my grandmom in a while and we would visit with them another time. Aiden had a ball visiting with my grandmom (the wheelchair was fun to push! Everyone was happy. So it was indeed a very Happy Easter.

Today was too nice to stay indoors so we went for a hike. We had recently purchased a backpack baby carrier and would finally be able to try it out. Actually, Chris was able to try it out and I was able to not have to carry anything - hooray!
The backpack carrier is the Sherpani Rumba and is supposed to be great for people my size (super short - 5 foot) as well as people my husband size (nice and tall - 6 feet 2 inches). There are not that many that baby carriers (and we tried a few) that would adjust to both our heights so we highly recommend anyone who is looking for comfort, fit and major adjustability between sizes.
Once Chris played with the strap adjustments and we figured out how to comfortably seat Aiden without the fear of him falling out, we were off. It was a beautiful day, the sun was shining and there was a nice breeze. Aiden really enjoyed being up at our level (well at least daddy’s, mine was much lower) and wanted to touch almost every tree. The hike was a little longer than we expected that we almost missed a naptime, but it was well worth it.
There were quite a few people out with their dogs and Aiden was in his glory! He would peer over daddy’s shoulder and shout, “Doggie!” (or something similar) with such excitement. I think we are going to have to get a dog for him, but only once we move into a house with a yard. Chris seems to like the idea too as long as it’s a Frisbee catching dog. I’m not sure what I want in a dog, I’ll have to get back to you on that.
All in all, we enjoyed the day, the backpack baby carrier and each other. Couldn’t have been more perfect of a day.

Aiden can sort of sign “airplane.” We live near a small airport and directly between (by many miles) two major airports, so we see and hear planes and helicopters at all hours of the day and night. Since the weather has been nice we have had the windows open and I noticed Aiden perking up every time he heard one fly over. I have also noticed that he can see them sometimes from our kitchen window during feedings. I have been trying to sign airplane whenever he notices and apparently he has noticed me doing so.
He can’t quite do the sign completely correct, as you need to bend your middle and ring fingers toward your palm and “fly” your hand above your head like an airplane. He takes his whole hand and “flies” it over his head - close enough for me! It is too cute because he is so proud of himself when he does it, not to mention I make a big fuss whenever he signs anything.
He now signs it when we take walks and he sees/hears one and also if he only hears the sound. When I point out a picture of a plane in a book and do the sign he immediately gets up and goes over to his window to try and find it in the sky. I mean, come on, how cute is that?!? I can’t say it enough times, but he never ceases to amaze me.
