During tonight’s evening ritual with Aiden, we were, as usual, hanging out in his room playing and reading books. We always allow Aiden some naked time (with diaper) before dressing him in his pajamas. He is elated to participate in naked time and rejoices proudly by taking his clothes and shaking them in the air.
Once naked time begins, Aiden will play or want to read books. While he was pulling every book off the bookshelf (his new obsession) I began reciting one of his board books. Having read them so many times this was not difficult, but his reaction surprised us. Aiden first looked over at me to see if I had the book and when he realized I did not he proceeded to look for the book and bring it over to me.
Now, I’m usually the first person to gloat about how smart my obviously brilliant child is, but both of us thought it was a fluke. I tried it two more times, each time making sure the book I recited was not on top of the pile. He carefully turned every book over until he found the correct one and brought it over to me to finish reading. We were stunned!
Apparently we read to him often enough so that he not only recognizes the pictures, but the front covers too! He is just too much. Now if I could just get him to pick up all the books he tears down, that would be amazing!

Last night Chris had an eye doctor’s appointment and since his eyes would be dialated we made it a family night out as I would be needed to drive us home. Aiden had a ball showing off his “verbal skills” to all the patients in the waiting room and was then asked to join the staff in the back room (accompanied by mommy, of course). This kid is too cute for his own good!
While in the room with daddy, I gave Aiden a ride on the doctor’s chair as it had wheels and made a great “car” for him. He loved it! When the doctor came in Aiden carefully observed what he was doing to daddy’s eyes. He seemed either very interested or very concerned as to what was happening to daddy. There was no change in Chris’s prescription which was great and he just had to order more contacts. Yay daddy!
While we were there I asked the doctor at what point we should bring Aiden in for a checkup. I wasn’t sure how old a child should be to have his eyes checked. Since Chris is only a few steps away from needing a seeing eye dog due to his near-sightedness and I am far-sighted, we figure either Aiden will balance out and be fine or have some type of problems with his eyesight. The doctor said we should bring him in around age 3, but from observing him now he seems to track well with his eyes. Hooray Aiden!
I had no idea that kids that young would be checked. The doctor mentioned it really would only be to check the health of the eye and not necessarily for any type of near- or far-sightedness. The doctor also cautioned us to make sure he doesn’t begin to bump into things on his left or right side, which could mean he is not seeing properly out of one of his eyes. Great, now we have something to freak out about.
Aiden is in the beginning stages of walking and falls and bumps into everything. Is it because he can’t see or is he just unstable on his feet? Thank you Mr. Eye Doctor!

Today I took Aiden out for lunch and we met my friend, Mary, and her daughter, Amanda. Amanda had off from school this week so it was nice to do something that didn’t confiscate an entire weekend. The weather was nice and I was glad to be getting out between Aiden’s naps. We had a wonderful lunch together, but the ride to and from drove me nuts!
Every single road I went on had some kind of construction on it. I waited in line while a “scooper” machine transfered dirt from one side of the road to the other. I manuevered around serveral orange cones telling me under no circumstances could I use the shoulder of the road. Don’t even get me started on how many slow moving trucks cut in front of me! I’m generally a patient person (right?), but something strange happens when I get into a car, I turn into a raving lunatic…
Hi. My name is Crissy and I am a road rager.
I just can’t help myself. I think it has to due with the fact that I am a control freak. I can’t stand it when I am bound by circumstances beyond my control. Why can’t they just drive the speed limit instead of 5-10 miles per hour under? What were they thinking pulling out in front of me like that? Can’t they see I have a baby in the back, their vehicles are tall enough. Wow, I think my blood pressure went up while I was typing! Need to take a breathing break…
When I took the baby classes during pregnancy I used to practice my breathing in the car in hopes that it would calm me down while I was driving. The breathing did help during delivery and I still use it while driving. Although I believe my son is going to think “sonofa” is a word, because that’s what I always say. I am able to censor myself before finishing the phrase, but I never can stop myself from letting most of it out. My Native American name should be “Little one with vehicular potty mouth” I believe everyone who is not driving the way I want them to is a jack***.
Yes, I can’t wait to hear what sounds come from of the back seat when he figures out that imitating mommy is fun.

Today we had planned to meet Tara and Drew for lunch at Panera Bread. As an aside, Chris and I love eating there, the foods are so yummy and Aiden doesn’t seem to mind munching on whatever we put in front of him. But I digress.
As I was saying, we met Tara and Drew for lunch. We were only supposed to see Tara, but Drew was jealous that she would be seeing Aiden two weekends in a row, that he played hookie from his scheduled softball game. I have to say, I thought the power of the Chris’ was strong, but the power of Aiden’s cuteness is much stronger!
We enjoyed their company, as always, and continued spending time with them doing errands. It seems that every time we get together with them lately it involves food and errands. I am going to have to do something about that.
We ended up at the mall and since it was getting close to dinnertime for Aiden (and us) we were going to part ways as Tara and Drew had other plans for dinner. After a brief discussion, they decided to forgo their dinner plans and join us as Wendy’s was right there and we were having such a good time together.
I know Aiden’s is cute and all, but I had no idea of the powers he possessed.

Today was another one of our running-around-like-crazy-people-to-different-birthday-parties-in opposite-directions days.
First, we attended Skylar’s birthday party. It was right inthe neighborhood and right after Aiden’s nap, which made it doubly convenient. She looked so cute in her pink party dress! We saw lots of Aiden’s friends and met some new ones. We were surprised to see Colin walking as a few weeks ago he was only attenpting it. We couldn’t stay to see Skylar open all her presents but all in all it was a good party.
We dashed home to allow Aiden to get some rest before the next shin-dig. My brother was having a birthday party for my neice who is turing 9 years old. So, in the car we packed ourselves again to drive an hour south. Aiden was overwhelmed with all the people there which made my family a little sad. They all wanted to hold him and play with him, but he wanted nothing to do with them. We only see my family about once a month and he is just not used to being around that many people at once. Not long before we left he had a melt-down. Until he is comfortable with them, they are just going to have to understand that he needs his space.
Aiden did not sleep in the car (which I was hoping he would) and by the time we got home, it was early for us, but past Aiden’s bedtime. We finally got him down and crashed for the evening. Another family event down several hundred more to go!
