Moms-to-be used to learn from their older female relatives. It was family pressure to follow in the footsteps. Now we rely on classes, books, message boards and the internet, so the "pressure" comes from people who don't really care about us-- they care about themselves. They don't think that you're a bad mother for eschewing the class; they're worried that they're bad mothers for needing to go. By the way, I skipped the newborn class, and the newborn seminar in the hospital. My daughter has survived to one so far so I think I can safely tell you yours will too. Good luck!
