Somewhere, Beyond the Sea…

Remember when I said that the Banana song was Aiden’s favorite? Well, we have moved on and now we are listening to the song from the Finding Nemo soundtrack, Beyond the Sea. We listen to it over and over in the car, when we take a stroller ride and it is the only song that calms him down when he wakes up crying. I find myself singing it when I wake up and it is in my head when I go to sleep.

I understand that repetition is the best way for kids this age to learn, but this is getting ridiculous! I need my sanity back though. I really enjoy the song, but I’m not sure how much longer that will hold out. I find myself singing it even when Aiden is not around. I fell like I’m going crazy…

Good-bye, farewell my friend, no more sailing.

Happy Birthday A-Chooooo!

This weekend Aiden turned two on Saturday and we had a family party on Sunday. Sounds like a fun filled weekend, right? Well, for the second year in a row, Aiden was sick for his party. He started to get sick on his birthday, but it didn’t hit home until everyone showed up for his party. Nice, huh?

Saturday was such a fun day too. It was a bit cool out, but we took Aiden into town to walk around, have lunch and buy his present. Although it was cool, the sun was out and it was a pleasant day. Aiden enjoyed walking around town and had a ball picking out his present in the toy store. We came home with a Brio train set and he just loves it!

Sunday came and he had a fever. It wasn’t as high as last year, so he was at least sociable instead of buried in my shoulder. He played nicely with his cousins and only when things didn’t go his way did he lose it and cry (which wasn’t too often). He didn’t eat much though, but I made sure he was drinking water at all times. All in all, everyone had a good time and Aiden received some nice gifts.

You Tube, Of Course!

Yes, that’s right, Aiden is addicted to YouTube.com. I introduced him to some classic Sesame Street clips and he is forever asking me for “Grover tickle” and “Grover hugs”. It’s very cute. However, there is one political song on there that has a catchy verse of repeating the word banana, which just happens to be Aiden’s favorite fruit at the moment. It basically makes fun of Catholics and Bush so be warned. I played it for Chris while Aiden was in ear shot. Now we can’t go one day without the Banana Song.

On a totally different topic, Aiden is talking like crazy. He comes up with new words all the time. My personal favorite was earlier this week while we were in the grocery store. I mentioned that we needed some milk and after I put it in the cart I said, “Aiden, we have milk now.” Aiden replied, “Of course, mommy.” and preceded to say of course to everything I said.
“We are all done shopping.” - “Of course, mommy.”
“It’s time to go home so we can eat lunch.” - “Of course, mommy.”
He was cracking me up!

Mother’s Day Weekend

This Mother’s Day was just wonderful. The weather was beautiful and I was able to wrangle the entire day with just my husband and son. It was heaven!

On Saturday, we visited with my mom and my brothers. We were meeting them at her house for dinner so we knew we weren’t going to be staying long. The hour long drive down usually isn’t anything to us, however this particular trip was especially long. Aiden has decided that the song “Beyond the Sea” from Finding Nemo is his favorite song, so we listened to it all the way down and all the way back home.  The visit was nice, my brother and his kids were there which is a special treat. The evening was relatively uneventful until Aiden threw up. We were taking some pictures of the family, he was getting tired and then my mom tried to hold him. He was having nothing to do with her at that particular moment so he started crying, then choking, then “Splat!” We took him home shortly after. He and my mom are just fine.

Sunday was a wonderful day. We went for a bike ride on the canal in the morning. We had a quiet afternoon while Aiden slept and then went over a friend’s house for dinner. No work and no cooking. Now that’s what I call a perfect Mother’s Day. Boy do I feel appreciated!

Triple Decker Birthday Party

This weekend Aiden participated in a birthday celebration. In April one of his friends turned 2 years old and 4 days before his birthday in May, another one of his friends turns 2 years old. So, being the efficient moms we are, we decided to have everyone gather once for a Triple Decker Birthday Party.

It was a blast! The kids had so much fun and I’m pretty sure the parents did too. I was a bit stressed as I am in the middle of grading for the end of the semester and on top of that my allergies were in high gear. All in all I pulled myself together and enjoyed the morning well into the afternoon.

The hostess’s home was decorated so cute in Blue’s Clues theme with balloons and streamers. We had each child decorate a white bag with eyes, ears, nose and mouth stickers. Then we handed out things for them to take home in their newly decorated bag (sunglasses, fruit snacks, notepads with doggies on them, etc.). Let’s just say that naptime was enforced due to all the fun the kids were having.

While I sit here and grade, I am glad that I took time out of my crazy schedule to celebrate. We still have a family party coming up in a couple weeks, but having all the kids together was really special. Aiden will have lots of pictures and video of these occasions to see how many friends he had even at such a young age.
