Happy Birthday A-Chooooo!

This weekend Aiden turned two on Saturday and we had a family party on Sunday. Sounds like a fun filled weekend, right? Well, for the second year in a row, Aiden was sick for his party. He started to get sick on his birthday, but it didn’t hit home until everyone showed up for his party. Nice, huh?

Saturday was such a fun day too. It was a bit cool out, but we took Aiden into town to walk around, have lunch and buy his present. Although it was cool, the sun was out and it was a pleasant day. Aiden enjoyed walking around town and had a ball picking out his present in the toy store. We came home with a Brio train set and he just loves it!

Sunday came and he had a fever. It wasn’t as high as last year, so he was at least sociable instead of buried in my shoulder. He played nicely with his cousins and only when things didn’t go his way did he lose it and cry (which wasn’t too often). He didn’t eat much though, but I made sure he was drinking water at all times. All in all, everyone had a good time and Aiden received some nice gifts.

Mother’s Day Weekend

This Mother’s Day was just wonderful. The weather was beautiful and I was able to wrangle the entire day with just my husband and son. It was heaven!

On Saturday, we visited with my mom and my brothers. We were meeting them at her house for dinner so we knew we weren’t going to be staying long. The hour long drive down usually isn’t anything to us, however this particular trip was especially long. Aiden has decided that the song “Beyond the Sea” from Finding Nemo is his favorite song, so we listened to it all the way down and all the way back home.  The visit was nice, my brother and his kids were there which is a special treat. The evening was relatively uneventful until Aiden threw up. We were taking some pictures of the family, he was getting tired and then my mom tried to hold him. He was having nothing to do with her at that particular moment so he started crying, then choking, then “Splat!” We took him home shortly after. He and my mom are just fine.

Sunday was a wonderful day. We went for a bike ride on the canal in the morning. We had a quiet afternoon while Aiden slept and then went over a friend’s house for dinner. No work and no cooking. Now that’s what I call a perfect Mother’s Day. Boy do I feel appreciated!

Triple Decker Birthday Party

This weekend Aiden participated in a birthday celebration. In April one of his friends turned 2 years old and 4 days before his birthday in May, another one of his friends turns 2 years old. So, being the efficient moms we are, we decided to have everyone gather once for a Triple Decker Birthday Party.

It was a blast! The kids had so much fun and I’m pretty sure the parents did too. I was a bit stressed as I am in the middle of grading for the end of the semester and on top of that my allergies were in high gear. All in all I pulled myself together and enjoyed the morning well into the afternoon.

The hostess’s home was decorated so cute in Blue’s Clues theme with balloons and streamers. We had each child decorate a white bag with eyes, ears, nose and mouth stickers. Then we handed out things for them to take home in their newly decorated bag (sunglasses, fruit snacks, notepads with doggies on them, etc.). Let’s just say that naptime was enforced due to all the fun the kids were having.

While I sit here and grade, I am glad that I took time out of my crazy schedule to celebrate. We still have a family party coming up in a couple weeks, but having all the kids together was really special. Aiden will have lots of pictures and video of these occasions to see how many friends he had even at such a young age.

Happy Halloween!

bear_1.jpgOn Saturday, Aiden had his second annual Halloween party. It was a smash! He was the most adorable little bear I have ever seen. All his friends had a great time and we enjoyed hanging out with the parents as well. Aiden was a snitch needy, but we thought it was due to all the people in the house. All in all it was a great day.

Apparently Aiden’s neediness was not a reflection of the amount of people that were over (although I’m sure that didn’t help) but it was due to the fact that he was getting sick. By Monday his nose was running and he wanted to be held all day. I indulged his sickness and let him watch some tv in my bed with a sippy cup of water and some crackers (tv and eating/drinking in the bed is usually a big no-no in our house).

Halloween came and Aiden was still sniffling. He took a mega long nap and I was beginning to think that today was going to come and go without Aiden participating. He perked up enough to go visit daddy at work and he was a big hit. We visitied one neighbor for trick or treating, but he was more fascinated by the kids coming to the door. Not a bad way to celebrate this holiday. Happy Halloween everyone!

Happy July 4th!

Happy 4th of July everyone! Here is a recap of our weekend…

Friday - Went to see the fireworks at the local high school with Shelia, Chris and Skylar. Just as the fireworks were starting, it began to rain. We stayed to watch them anyway and Aiden and Skylar were not phased in the least.

Sunday - Enjoyed a nice bbq at home with the company of Tara, Drew and Hamlet. Aiden had a ball playing “I’m Gonna Get You” with Hamlet until Hamlet would bark, which made Aiden cry. They were super cute playing together though.

Monday - Tara and Drew joined us for fireworks at the college where Chris works. There was a local band providing music and everyone (including Aiden) was dancing. The display was nice but much later than Friday night, so Aiden went to bed super late. I have to say he is not drastically affected by the changes in his routine and actually was pleasant to be around.

Tuesday - Attended a picnic at a friend’s house. We actually had four invites and chose this particular party because there was a pool. Yes, I even blew off seeing family, but since we don’t have a pool and Aiden loves the water, we just couldn’t pass this up. It rained on the way there and apparently all those who were on time to the picnic had to take cover. Our tardiness paid off this time! Chris, Aiden and I joined the kids in the pool and had a great time. I think we chose wisely.

Hope everyone had a wonderful time celebrating our independence, while we still have it that is.
